We are bringing safe, active play opportunities to children outside of the US too. We have already built three playgrounds in Haiti and Afghanistan.
Thanks to the generous support of Sue Weil, a major supporter and donor for Alexandra’s Playground, we are bringing play to children in Haiti. To date we have completed five playgrounds there. We are committed to continuing to build at least one more playground in Haiti each year. Our work there is already touching the lives of hundreds of children and their families who would not otherwise have access to a playground. These playgrounds are located at a Rectory in Thibaue, a school outside of Mirebalais (the only one within a 5-mile radius), in Grand Goave, Beudet Saint Croix, and Delmas 32 in Port-au-Prince.
In 2011, Alexandra’s Playground funded a playground for a girls school in Kabul, Afghanistan through Playground Builders. The new playground benefits the lives of 6,000 girls who attend the school on a rotational schedule. As the only safe place to play in this community, the playground serves all of the local children, their parents and teachers. It provides a much needed safe, central gathering place for families to come together to socialize, play and be active.
