Alexandra’s Playground is committed to bringing more children the opportunity for safe, active play. Every year we identify and build playgrounds for very deserving communities in the tr-state area. We also build much needed playgrounds in Haiti.

Guaranteed Entry

As an official New York Road Runners charity partner, Alexandra’s Playground has a number of secured entries for the race. We allocate those spots to team members who do not get entry via the NYRR lottery and who commit to fundraising a minimum of $2000. That fundraising commitment must be met by March 15, 2016.

We ask that all team members first try to secure a spot in the race via the NYRR lottery system. Click here to sign up with NYRR. Please note the lottery closes on December 3rd and the drawing will take place on December 10th.

Running with Team Alex

Team Alex has been running the NYC Half Marathon since 2009. Every year our team grows and our fundraising gets stronger. The funds raised go directly towards building a playground in a deserving community in the tri-state area.

We are busy working with Kompan US, our playground equipment provider, and Berkeley Township to complete the playground design and plan the installation.  This new playground will replace the previous one devastated by Super storm Sandy. Read the news article here.

Build Day Details

• Location: Butler Beach at the end of Butler Blvd. in Bayville NJ. Parking will be arranged at Butler Blvd and Bayville.  See Map.
• Volunteer Registration: 9:30 AM
• Build Kick off: 10:00 AM
• Ribbon cutting 2:30 PM

We will supply all volunteers with coffee and bagels, lunch and a t-shirt.

In addition to building the playground, we will be doing a beach clean up and planting grass to help beautify the area. Kids under 18 will not be permitted to work inside the playground borders but will be able to help with these other activities and a host of other necessary tasks for the build. We have lots of activities and games planned for younger kids.

We are also seeking support from local businesses to supply breakfast and lunch for our hard working playground builders. If you would like to help by donating please email tricia@alexandrasplayground.org

Hundreds of volunteers—orthopaedic surgeons, allied health and industry partners, and families—gathered at Palabra Viva to help transform the site so that community children will have a safe and accessible playground to play. The community surrounding Palabra Viva will now be able to enjoy their new Safe and Accessible Playground for years to come. And, the hundreds of children and families who wait in line for the church’s food bank each week will have activities to help pass the time.

This was the 6th year we supported and participated in this build. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and participated! And a big thank you to our donors for helping to make this happen.

The starter pistol went off at 7:30AM and the first of 30,000 participants took their first steps of the 13.1 mile run through Manhattan.  Thirty of those runners were sporting black and purple Team Alex running shirts. Together they had already raised more than $70,000 and they just had 13.1 miles to go. Many of our team members are accomplished runners while others had never tackled a 5 mile race, let alone 13.1!  After running through Central Park and Times Square and then down a long stretch of the West Side Highway, Team Alex runners crossed the finish line at South Street Seaport.  Team members celebrated with a delicious and hearty brunch at Spina Restaurant in the East Village.

Team Alex’s incredible efforts will come to life on June 6th when we re-build a Super storm Sandy destroyed playground in Berkeley Township NJ. Their efforts will also go a long way towards helping to build the much needed playground for another public elementary school in Paterson, NJ this fall.

We thank all of our amazing Team Alex runners and all of their friends and family who supported them by making generous donations to Alexandra’s Playground!

This new playground will be the only one within a half a mile radius. It will be open to the public and reach 1200 children and their families annually. The average household income in the community is $32,000 and 90% of its children are on a free or subsidized lunch program at school. This playground will be an extremely welcome addition to this deserving community and we are thrilled to be able to give them this gift of play!

A big thank you to Liam, Audrey, Griffin and Isla Patterson who have provided an extremely generous donation towards this playground build. We look forward to building this playground together with them.

It was a fun, albeit cold, day! 35 runners covered 13.1 miles of Manhattan. Team Alex had a stellar performance and enjoyed a well deserved celebration at Spina Restaurant after the race.
